Restore the Strength of Your Smile
A missing or lost tooth can affect how you feel and look. You may worry about a gap in your smile or avoid chewing on one side. Over time, a lost tooth can change how you talk, chew, or look, as your teeth help maintain jaw and facial shape.
Replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant can preserve your quality of life. At Zen Dental Centre, we want you to feel comfortable with your smile. Get in touch with us today.
Book AppointmentWhat Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a titanium replacement for a tooth’s root. The root makes up two-thirds of every tooth and helps hold it in place. When the root is damaged, and it can’t be saved with a root canal treatment, the tooth weakens or loses grip. An implant allows your dentist to place an artificial tooth that can look and feel like a natural tooth.
What Causes Tooth Loss?
There are many reasons why you might lose a tooth, including:
Cavities can weaken a tooth’s structure, allowing bacteria to reach the inner tooth, leading to severe tooth decay or infection.
Injuries, such as a skirmish during contact sports—so don’t forget your mouthguard to prevent cracks or chips from weakening your teeth.
Gum disease is progressive and can affect tissue and bone in later stages. Weakened gums can pull away, leading to loose teeth.
What Can You Expect During a Dental Implant Procedure?
Restoring your smile with a dental implant requires multiple appointments to allow recovery time. In most cases, placing the implant takes a single appointment, while placing the artificial tooth takes place after the area has healed.
A dental implant is a surgical procedure, so we’ll provide instructions and tips to help with your recovery. We’ll also discuss an appropriate choice for tooth replacement, such as a crown for a single dental implant or a bridge for a few missing teeth.
Placing the Implant
At your surgical appointment, we’ll use a local anesthetic to help make the procedure comfortable. First, a small incision is made to insert the implant into the jawbone beneath the gum. Then, the gum is stitched to close the incision.
Many patients can return to normal activities within a few days. But it can take 2–6 months before there’s enough bone growth to secure the implant.
Placing the Replacement Tooth
An implant gives an artificial tooth the support to function and feel like a natural tooth. Placing the artificial tooth restores the look and can blend in with your smile. A crown can replace a single missing tooth, but dental implants can also help replace multiple teeth.
We can discuss which solution works for you, such as a crown, fixed bridge, or snap-in dentures. Fitting your customized replacement can take multiple appointments.
